Benjamin Warren
An environmentalist with software engineering credentials, Benjamin has been driving communications strategy at the non-profit Golf Environment Organisation (GEO) since 2006.
His most notable accomplishment in this role has been the development of GEO Certification – a completely transparent web-based mechanism for credibly recognising excellence in the environmental management of golf. Built under consultation with major golf and scientific organisations, the system is a world first in terms of completely transparent and publicly accessible certification.
He has also co-ordinated the development of an environmental resource centre which comprehensively explores the impacts of golf. Part of the team implementing the 2010 Ryder Cup environmental action plan, Benjamin is exploring messages for motivating contractors and suppliers, with a view to harnessing the media power of the event to drive innovation and showcase achievement.
After a spell working in the North American winter sports industry, followed by involvement in golf and events management in Japan, he was drawn back to his native Scotland by the challenge of expanding GEO’s reach and effectiveness.
Despite often-negative perceptions of his industry, Benjamin subscribes to GEO’s core belief that golf can have intrinsic benefits for people and the environment.
Benjamin is a frequent speaker at international conferences as well as a regular contributor to industry magazines.
